What will I learn?

Become Master of your DSLR (in the make it do what you want it to kind of way)

  • The course is divided into 5 Modules with each further broken down into easy to digest sections.

Module 1: Moving out of Auto Mode

If you are like most people you want to be able to capture great pictures at a moment’s notice, where every shot’s a winner.  You weren’t happy with the results that your compact point and shoot camera was giving you, so you indulged in a DSLR.

Now you switch that dial to Green Auto and just use that massive piece of technology like a great big point and shoot camera.  Point it in the right direction and shoot! The flash fires?  You can’t do anything to stop it!  The camera has complete control – you are just literally pointing it in the right direction.

If this sounds like you, this section will show you how to wave goodbye to full auto mode and start gaining back the control of your camera that you need to take really awesome shots!

Module 2: Have you seen the Light?

Seeing and controlling light is one of the most important jobs a photographer has. In this module you’ll explore light and to begin to understand some of it’s characteristics and how it impacts your photography.  We’ll look at Flash, ISO, shooting in tricky lighting situations and have you beginning to think like a master of light

Module 3: Exposure Explored

In this module we move further away from Program Auto mode and examine how you can individually control the variables that control exposure so that your photos appear exactly how you want them to look. We’ll also dig into all that terminology such as Aperture Shutter Speed and ISO. Don’t worry –  you’ll “get” it all when we’re done with Module 3.

Module 4: Composition I – People

Composition is the action or art of putting things together in a thoughtful way .  In photography your knowledge of composition will help you become a better photographer by making it easier to put together a photo in a “pleasing” way. Once you know a few basic rules you will begin to see how you can tweak things to bring your photos to the next level.

Module 5: Composition II

In your final module you will look at composition as it relates to nature, landscapes and travel photography. This will give you a basic foundation to photography almost everything you see in an artfully composed way.

I’ve been teaching photography for more than 10 years so I know the type of information you need when you are first starting out.  Here’s what some of my students have to say:

“Envision having a sports car, keys and full tank of gas but have no real idea on how to drive it. This was my situation. I almost gave up but then I found Ingrid. Her Photoshop crash course is perfect on giving you more than enough tools to go home and start editing your photos. It is obvious that not only does she love photography but also loves to see others get excited about photography. Her teaching style is very relaxed and disarming. When you leave, you will feel very encouraged and excited to start practicing your new acquired skills.”
Becky, Atlanta
“CameraShy was exactly what I was looking for: a casual environment to learn some basics.  Ingrid is easy to understand and what she teaches is easily applied.  I will be returning for more and bringing friends…”
Liza Cochran, Atlanta
“As a busy mom of five, Ingrid’s class was perfect for me! I was able to learn at my own pace and she left the lessons up for a while after the class concluded so I could go back and master the skills. I learned the basics of exposure and how to use the camera, and have been able to take that base and build on it. She is easy to learn from and I would recommend her class to anyone!.”
